2018 Annual Patient Conference sessions by topic

Five years ago, The Myositis Association celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Louisville, KY at the Marriott Downtown.  Since that time, there have been significant discoveries related to myositis and treatments for the disease.  Also during this time, the Marriott Louisville Downtown has renovated even further and offers an even more luxurious experience than it did in 2013.  To report on myositis progress and take advantage of the comfortable luxury of the Marriott, we are back at the Louisville Marriott again this year – Back to the Future!

For those who were at the Annual Conference in 2013, you know how convenient it was to get to Louisville and participate in the 20th Anniversary celebration of TMA.  This year, is TMA’s 25th Anniversary and there will again be special events to honor this milestone year.

Conference sessions now number more than 80 and TMA’s Medical Advisory Board has expanded to 22 expert members, all of whom will be presenting at the Confernce this year.  While the program has grown, we have been mindful of the need for attendees to be able to participate at their own pace.  We are now repeating some sessions during the Conference and have added sessions in the evening to provide more opportunities for attendees to get to the sessions of most interest to them without having to cram everything into a crowded morning and afternoon program.

The number of sessions specifically for caregivers (we call them “care partners”) has also grown in the past 5 years, and the amount of information and advice to patients and carepartners is at an all-time high.  An informal welcome wine and cheese reception has been added to the Friday afternoon program for attendees to mingle and meet others who share their disease.

As always, much of the valuable information you receive at the Conference will be from speaking with others who have your form of myositis.  There is ample time built into the meals and breaks in the program for you to sit and talk with fellow attendees about the challenges you face.

You will come away from the conference better informed about your disease, better informed about practical adaptations you can make to better cope with the disease, and maybe even more inspired to not let the disease stand in the way of the things that you enjoy.

We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity the Annual Conference offers.  If you have not been to a TMA Annual Patient Conference before, you owe it to yourself to make room for this in 2018.

We hope to see you in Louisville!
