After Laurie Boyer’s older brother Tommy passed away from dermatomyositis in 2012, she and other members of her family created a foundation to provide financial assistance to myositis patients as a way to fulfill her brother’s wish to help others with this rare disease. Since that time, Laurie has been a fervent supporter of TMA and its mission-driven work. She lives in Port St. Lucie, Florida where she is a district administrator for St. Lucie Public Schools, focusing on instructional technology, marketing outreach, and STEM initiatives. She has been happily married to her firefighter husband Wayne for over 20 years and they have two teenage children, Derek and Pippi. She enjoys spending her free time attending their music and sport competitions.
