Amma’s Legacy

Jani dekha hobe ( জানি দেখা হবে )-We will meet again. Selina Alam Yazdan fought with grace and courage during her battle with a rare form of an autoimmune disease called anti-MDA5 amyopathic dermatomyositis, which caused rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease resulting in respiratory failure. Despite a lung transplant and chemotherapy, she was called to Paradise on February 3, 2021, less than three months after she initially became ill and only 2 months after she was diagnosed. Selina was surrounded by her husband and two daughters during her passing. Lovingly referred to as “Amma” (meaning mother in Bangla), Selina was deeply loved by her husband, daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, family, and friends from across the world, including in the United States, Canada, London, and in her home country of Bangladesh. To those who knew her, she was always a positive spirit, smiling, spreading joy, and always giving to her family and those in her community. To honor her life and the love that she spread, we are asking for donations to The Myositis Association, which supports research efforts to address this rare disease, those affected by it, and their families.
