Topics from Juvenile Myositis
Lisa G. Rider, M.D., TMA medical advisor and Deputy Chief of NIEHS, National Institutes of Health, is a pediatric rheumatologist who has been closely associated with TMA since its beginning.

Dr. Rider has made Juvenile Myositis her life's work and has spent over 15 years in the field. She is involved with research into many aspects of Juvenile Myositis, has counseled families dealing with very difficult cases of JM and has played a significant part in the lives of JM families around the world. She was a driving force and a lead editor in the publication of "Myositis and You," the landmark compilation of medical information and coping skills for the juvenile myositis community. Myositis and Cancer: what's the connection?
Andrew Mammen, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and Co-Director of The Johns Hopkins Myositis Center. Dr. Mammen has a special interest in the inflammatory myopathies, and his research focuses primarily on muscle regeneration in myositis as well as the link between myositis and cancer.

Dr. Mammen spoke at last year's Annual Conference about the relationship between dermatomyositis and polymyositis and cancer, and was a member of the medical panel at the conference. Click here to read the transcript.

Side-Effects of Medications
Robert L. Wortmann, M.D. is a nationally recognized Rheumatologist and is Professor of Medicine in the Section of Rheumatology at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He has a long standing interest in "diseases of skeletal muscle," having edited a textbook with that title. Dr. Wortmann currently serves as the Chairman of TMA’s Medical Advisory Board.

Lisa Christopher-Stine, MD, MPH, Co-Director of The Johns Hopkins Myositis Center will speak about the relationship between statins (drugs prescribed for high cholesterol) and myositis in a live "Question & Answer" discussion.

A clinical rheumatologist, Dr. Christopher-Stine first became interested in myositis when she began seeing several cases in her practice. Dr. Christopher-Stine currently works with myositis patients as Co-Director of the John's Hopkins Myositis Center and serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at John Hopkins University. Dysphagia
Todd Levine has been working with myositis patients for over 15 year. He’s published and conducted research with all forms of myositis and he is also currently involved with the IBM in lithium trials as well as Rituximab in PM/DM and MedImmune for DM studies.
